Question : RESETTLEMENT ON FOREST LAND



(a) whether a proposal regarding resettlement of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on forest land of Uttar Pradesh was sent to the Government;

(b) if so, the action taken by the Government thereon;

(c) the State-wise number of other such cases still pending from various States including Maharashtra with the Government; and

(d) the efforts being made by the Government in this regard and the time by which resettlement work is likely to be completed?

(a) The Ministry has not received any proposal for resettlement of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on forest land of Uttar Pradesh.

(b) In view of (a) above, question does not arise.

(c)&(d) No such proposal for resettlement of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on forest land has been received from any States including Maharashtra.

The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, under the Section 3 (1) (h) recognizes the settlement and conversion of forest villages, whether recorded, notified or not, into revenue villages as a forest right. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is the Nodal Ministry for implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
