Question : OPERATION OF RAILWAY TRACK



(a) whether the Railways have taken a note that a railway track had been constructed during British period from Kolkata to Karimganj via East Pakistan now situated in Bangladesh;

(b) if so, whether the said railway track is still operational;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether Railways have any proposal to reduce the distance of journey through the said rail track;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the steps taken by the Railways in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI MANOJ SINHA)

(a) to (c) No Madam. The rail network was available from Kolkata to Goalundo and Dhaka to Karimganj excluding Khadir portion of river Padma on which Boats/Ferries/Other road means were operational.

(d) There is no proposal at present.

(e) & (f) Do not arise.
