MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI UPENDRA KUSHWAHA)

(a) Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are opened primarily to cater to the educational
needs of the children of transferable Central Government Employees including
Defence & Para-Military personnel by providing a common programme of education.
Proposals for opening of new KVs are considered only if sponsored by Ministries or
Departments of the Government of India/State Governments / Union Territories
Administrations thereby committing resources for setting up a new KV as well as the
availability of necessary sanction of the Government. At present there is no decision
to start a new Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tamil Nadu. The proposals received from
various sponsoring authorities for opening of new KVs also have to compete among
other proposals under the “Challenge Method”.
(b) The total number of seats provided in Kendriya Vidyalayas during 2017-18 under
discretionary quota of the Hon’ble Minister are 9292. The State-wise and Schoolwise
details are Annexed.
