Question : Coastal Regulation Zone Rules

(a) whether the Government has received a request from various States including Kerala to review the CRZ Rules;
(b) if so, the details and present status thereof;
(c) whether the Government has received complaints from fishermen against the CRZ rules; and
(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government to address the grievances of the fishermen in this regard?

(a) to (c)The Ministry has received requests from the coastal States/Union Territories including the Government of Kerala, for changes in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification, 2011 especially in terms of the provisions relating to construction/expansion/additional housing required by the local fishermen/traditional communities living by the sea, development of tourist resorts and other infrastructure facilities. Representations from fishermen in the matter were also received through the State Government of Kerala.

(d)To address grievances of the fishermen and to cause a review the CRZ Notification, 2011, the Central Government has constituted a Committee under the chairmanship of the then Secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The Committee has submitted its recommendations.
