Question : Small Hydro Power Projects

(a) the details of current and potential power generation for the next five years from small hydro-power projects in the country;
(b) the status of small hydro power projects under construction along with the number of projects already functional, State/UT-wise; and
(c) the funds allocated and utilised for the development of small hydro power projects during the year 2017-2018, State/UT-wise?

(a)&(b) The current power generation capacity from small hydro power projects is 4647.557 MW through 1126 commissioned projects (as on 30th November 2019). In addition, 110 projects of cumulative capacity of 553.24 MW are under various stages of construction. Thus, total power generation capacity from small hydro power projects would be 5200.797 MW. State wise information about number of projects already commissioned and under construction with their cumulative power generation capacity is at Annexure-A.

(c) During the year 2017-18, against allocation of Rs. 123.50 crore for the development of small hydro power in the budget of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Rs. 147.49 crore was released as central financial assistance, including Rs 23.57 crore from bond money raised by IREDA. The state-wise release of funds is at Annexure-B.
