Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a) to (d): The University Grants Commission (UGC) constituted a Sub-Committee to under- take assessment of 41 Category ‘C’ Institutions Deemed to be Universities. These Universities appeared before the Sub-Committee and made a video presentation of their institutions. However, the UGC has not pointed out specific deficiencies in respect of infrastructure and faculty strength. Pursuant to the direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court, 8 Deemed to be Universities were inspected by the UGC Expert Committees. The report of the Expert Committee has been considered by the Commission and the Commission resolved that one year time may be given to 7 of these 8 Deemed to be Universities to rectify their deficiencies that were pointed out by the UGC Expert Committee.
