Question : New Kendriya Vidyalayas

(a) the details of setting up/ construction of buildings for Kendriya Vidyalayas
(KVs) in the country, State/UT wise, especially one in Buldhana District of
Maharashtra;
(b) the total amount allocated to the States for the said purpose including Gujarat
and Maharashtra for operation of KVs during the last three years, year-wise
and State/UT-wise;
(c) the number of KVs functioning in all the States, State/UT-wise including Gujarat
and Maharashtra;
(d) whether the availability of land is a big problem for setting up of new KVs and if
so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the Government in this
regard;
(e) whether a lot of requests for setting up of new KVs are pending with
Government; and
(f) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

(a) Out of 1196 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) functioning in the country 926 are
functioning in permanent buildings and 76 KV buildings are under construction. The
State / UT- wise details are at Annexure-I. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has
informed that it has not received any proposal from the Government of Maharashtra
for opening of a new KV in Buldhana District.
(b): The Government of India allocates funds to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
(KVS) under the heads Grants-in-Aid-Salaries, Grant-in-Aid-General and Grants-in-
Aid-Creation of Capital Assets. This allocation is made on a consolidated basis and
not State / UT-wise. The details of the grants released to KVS during the last three
years are as under:-

(c): The State/UT-wise details of KVs functioning in the country including Gujarat
and Maharashtra are at Annexure-II.
(d) to (f) KVS does not acquire the land for KVs. Suitable piece of land is to be
provided by sponsoring authority free of cost to establish a KV. In 25 cases, the
sponsoring authorities have not transferred the identified land to the respective KVs.
This includes 18 cases sponsored by State Governments, 4 by Ministry of Defence
and 3 by Ministry of Home Affairs.
As regards setting up of new KVs, KVS has informed that it has received 190
proposals / requests from various States/UTs for opening of new KVs. Final decision
regarding setting up of the KV would depend upon the feasibility report, qualifying
under the ‘Challenge Mode’ and approval of the competent authority.
