Question : Sub-standard Drugs



Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) whether it is true that as per the recent National Drug Survey 2014-16, more than 3% of drugs sold in the country are below quality standards;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the percentage of such drugs sold is nearly 11% in Andhra Pradesh and the practice is more prominent in Government hospitals; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the manner in which the Government is planning to direct Andhra Pradesh and other States where drug quality is below standards?

(a) & (b): As per the National Drug Survey Report 2014-16, total 3.16% of the drug samples were found to be Not of Standard Quality (NSQ).
(c) & (d): As per the survey report, 10.64% of drug samples were found to be NSQ in the State of Andhra Pradesh from Government sources. In the said survey, overall 10.02% (total 839 out of the 8369 samples) of the drug samples drawn from Government sources were found Not of Standard Quality (NSQ). The test Reports of the drug samples declared as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) were forwarded to concerned State Licensing Authorities with a request to take appropriate action and also to take legal samples of same batch of drugs for testing.
