Question : NEW RAIL LINE FOR CEMENT TRANSPORT



(a) whether the Railways have any provision of laying railway lines for cement freight transportation with the money of the factories;

(b) if so, the number of such railway lines in Rajasthan which have been laid by using funds of private factories;

(c) whether Railways have laid Banguram – Ras railway line for Shree Cements Ltd; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): A statement is attached.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3381 BY SHRI KHILADI LAL BAIRWA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 15.04.2010 REGARDING NEW RAIL LINE FOR CEMENT TRANSPORT.

(a): Yes, Madam. Railways in, November 2008, issued a policy viz. R3i – Railways’ Infrastructure for Industry Initiative whereby railway lines can be built for transportation of certain goods including cement with partial funding from the concerned industry. The R3i policy is currently under review.

(b) to (d): In the state of Rajasthan, one new line project from Bangurgram to Ras has been sanctioned in 2008-09 which was prior to the issue of R3i Policy. This project envisages construction of new line with partial funding from two cement companies viz., M/s Shree Cement and M/s Ambuja Cements. Land acquisition for the project has been taken up.
