Question : Road Projects in Tamil Nadu

(a) the length of expressways and other category of roads constructed in the State of Tamil Nadu including the district of Cuddalore since 2014, year and category-wise;

(b) whether the Government has sanctioned one lakh and fifty thousand crore rupees for the development of Highway projects in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of projects completed, under progress and to be under taken in Tamil Nadu; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to construct more road over bridges and flyovers in Tamil Nadu and for removal of black spots on NH’s in Tamil Nadu?

(a) This Ministry is primarily responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways (NH) in the country. The details of length of NH and other category of roads constructed in the State of Tamil Nadu since 2014 with funds provided by this Ministry are given below:-

(b) & (c) Since 2014, this Ministry has sanctioned NH projects costing about Rs. 38000 Crore in Tamil Nadu State. Further, NH Projects covering 3040 Km. length costing Rs. 21816 Crore are completed, NH Projects covering 1532 Km length costing Rs. 24560 Crore are under implementation. Projects covering 2911 Km length are proposed for award during 2019-20.
(d) Six level crossings in Tamil Nadu have been proposed to be replaced with Road Over Bridges under Sethubharatham Project in NH stretches entrusted to State Highways Department. Development and maintenance of National Highways (NH) is a continuous process and projects are taken up based on traffic, availability of funds and inter-se priority of works. All the black spots are being rectified with short term /midterm / long term measures in a phased manner, depending on the availability of funds.
