Question : Reinstatement of Chief Administrative Office

(a) whether the Railways have decided to reinstate the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) in Kochi which was shifted to Allahabad;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the reasons for shifting the CAO to Allahabad;

(d) whether the Railways have made any correspondence with Government of Kerala in this regard; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) was set up in Ernakulam (Kochi) of Southern Railway in 2011 by creating the post of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This post was transferred to North Central Railway in November 2015 to be operated as Additional General Manager (AGM) as a stop gap arrangement since there was need to provide the post of AGM in all Railway zones where no such post existed.
The post was restored to Southern Railway in January 2016.
