Question : Statutory Benefits to HEC Employees

(a) whether retired employees of Heavy Engineering Corporation, Ranchi have been agitating due to delay in the payment of their statutory benefits;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons for the delay; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government for the timely payment of the dues to employees of HEC, Ranchi and the success achieved therein?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES (SHRI G.M. SIDDESHWARA)

(a): HEC has informed that some retired employees have filed cases with the Regional Labour Commissioner, Ranchi for payment of their gratuity and interest thereon for the delayed period.

(b): HEC has informed that as on 31.1.2016 the amount pending for statutory payment under the gratuity head is Rs 37.04 cr.

HEC has not been able to pay statutory dues to employees as the Company is passing through acute financial crisis.

(c): A loan of Rs 47.89 cr was provided to HEC in 2014 as one time assistance to enable the Company to liquidate the accumulated gratuity dues of its employees up to 31.3.2014. HEC has informed that the Company has been able to mostly liquidate the gratuity dues up to 31.3.2014
