Question : WITHDRAWN OF INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS BY AIR INDIA



(a) whether Air India has withdrawn some flights from certain International routes;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the reasons for discontinuing the same?

(a) and (b):- Yes, Sir. Air India has withdrawn its services from Tel Aviv, Geneva, Seoul in March, 1998 and Frankfurt, Manchester and Rome in May, 1999. In addition to above, Code Share flight with United Airlines between Delhi and Washington was also withdrawn in April, 1999.

(c):- Air India initiated the process of implementing a turnaround strategy to curtail losses and maximise profit by:-


(i) Restructuring and rationalising its network by serving core sector routes and developing a secondary network service through airline alliances.

(ii) Redeployment of its own fleet on more profitable routes.

(iii) Several unprofitable routes and routes with poor profitability were withdrawan to concentrate on a more consistently profitable routes.
