Question : SINDRI FERTILIZEE PLANT



(a) whether thousands of workers have become unemployed due to closure of Sindri Fertilizer plant;

(b) if so, the losses incurred by the plant during the last three years, year- wise;

(c) the action taken by the Government to make this plant operational and the reasons for the delay; and

(d) the time by which this unit is likely to become operational?

(a) : Sindri Fertilizer Plant, a unit of Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd., was closed vide Government decision taken in 2002. About 2067 employees have been relieved under Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) as a result of closure of Sindri Ferilizer Plant. These employees have been given the financial benefit as per rules under VSS.

(b) : Government has not directly incurred any loss. However, cash loss incurred by the Sindri Unit during the last three years is as under :-

(c)&(d) : Revival of FCIL including its Sindri Unit is under consideration of the Government. It is not possible to indicate any definite time frame for revival of the Sindri Unit at this stage.
