Supreme Court of India The Supreme Court has expressed its inability to furnish the exact number of cases pending in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court Registry has been issued instructions to make efforts to identify the matters relating to older persons and get them disposed of on priority basis.
HIGH COURTS

1. Andhra 35,878 A total No. of 48,737 cases of Pradesh (In District/ senior citizens have been Subordinate identified, out of which 13,167 Courts of cases have been disposed of Andhra Pradesh and in 10,854 cases the trial as on 1.7.2000) is in advanced stage.
2. Calcutta 10,853 The High Court has issued (in Distt. courts) orders to take up these cases on priority basis. 2091 cases of senior citizens were taken up for hearing.
3. Gauhati 617 The High Court have issued instructions to all outlying Benches of the High Court and the Subordinate Courts under the jurisdiction of Gauhati High Court to dispose of cases in which persons above 65 years of age are involved on priority basis.
4. Himachal 725 The High Court has issued Pradesh (District & instructions to all the Subordinate Subordinate Courts in the Courts only) State of H.P. to take up the cases of the persons above the age of 65 years on priority basis.
5. Jammu and 1631 The High Court has directed Kashmir all Subordinate Courts to dispose of speedily cases involving persons above 65 years of age.
6. Kerala 31586 (as on 1.4.2000 The High Court has issued in District & instructions to subordinate Subordiante courts to dispose of cases Courts only) of senior citizens on priority basis. Such cases are being periodically monitored by the High Court.
7. Madhya 8635 The High Court is following Pradesh (In High Court the Order of the Chief Only) Justice of India in this regard.
8. Orissa No record However, cases filed on available behalf of the senior citizens, pensioners and retired Government servants are being taken up on priority bases, if prayers are made.
9. Patna 10077 The High Court has directed (In District/ the Judicial Officers to Subordinate identify the cases Courts as on involving older persons 1.1.2000) more particularly those who are more than 65 years old, and dispose of the cases on priority basis during the year 1999 and these officers who dispose of such cases should be given extra credit of 10% of the units for final disposal of cases in normal course.
10. Punjab & 8033 The High Court has issued Haryana (In District/ necessary instructions to Subordinate all the District and Courts of Punjab Session Judges to identify Haryana and and dispose of cases in UT of Chandigarh) which persons above 65 years of age are involved on priority basis.
