Question : PROMOTION OF DAIRY SECTOR



(a) whether the Government has made any arrangement to ensure economic viability of the dairy sector for the farmers;

(b) if so, the outcome thereof; and

(c) the action being taken by the Government to provide cattle feed and others etc. at subsidised rate to the farmers engaged in the dairy sector?

(a) The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries is implementing the following Dairy Development schemes under which central assistance is provided to dairy cooperatives and dairy farmers:

1. Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP)

2. Assistance to Cooperatives (A tc C)

3. Strengthening Infrastructure for Quality and Clean Milk Production ( SIQ&CMP)

4. Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS)

(b) The details of physical and financial achievements under the above four schemes are annexed.

(c) There is no scheme in the Department of Animal Husbandry; Dairying & Fisheries to provide cattle feed on subsidized rate. However, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DOAC) under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) is implementing Accelerated Fodder Development Programme (AFDP) in 12 States from 2011-12. The scheme aims to accelerate the production of fodder through intensive promotion of technologies to ensure it is available throughout the year. Rs 300 crore has been provided for AFDP which will benefit farmers in 25,000 villages. An amount of Rs.292.23 crore has been released to States under this programme as on 20.03.2012.
