Question : FALSE EVIDENCE



(a) whether some innocent persons are punished and many guilty persons are saved in the courts on the basis of false evidence;

(b) whether a number of persons are available in the court premises itself for giving false evidence and lawyers have links with them;

(c) if so, the provisions made by the Government for preventing such false evidences; and

(d) the number of persons against whom action has been taken for giving false evidence during the last two years, State-wise?

Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has forwarded the assurance in respect of the above cited question which was received in this Department on 22.05.2001. In this connection it is stated that this assurance was already been approved by Hon`ble MLJ&CA for transfer to Ministry of Home Affairs. Accordingly a fair Office Memorandum was sent to Ministry of Home Affairs on 25.05.2001.(flag `A`) They have been reminded on 17th July, 2001. Their response is still awaited.

The time limit for fulfilment of the assurance is upto 31st July, 2001. Therefore, we may write to Committee on Government Assurances for extention of time upto 31st October, 2001 for fulfilment of the said assurance. Submitted for kind approval of Hon`ble MLJ&CA.
