Question : SUGARCANE PRICE RATIONALISATION



(a) whether the matter regarding sugarcane price rationalisation has been referred to the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP);

(b) whether the CACP convened a seminar to work out a viable pricing policy; and

(c) if so, the details regarding the present status of the matter?

(a),(b)&(c): The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has referred the recommendations of the Mahajan Committee on sugarcane pricing to the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and they have been requested to recommend a new sugarcane pricing policy. CACP had accepted the responsibility. A seminar on `Pricing of Sugarcane` was held and the representatives of the Central and State Governments, sugar industry associations, sugarcane growers, research institutions relating to sugar and sugarcane and leading agricultural economists had participated in the seminar.
