(a)&(b): Yes. Madam. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) funded project has estimated that about 500 million tons of agriculture and agro-industrial resi- dues are being generated annually in the country. About seventy percent of these residues are used as fodder, as fuel for domestic and industrial sectors and for other economic purposes. About 120-150 million tons of agro-industrial and agriculture residues per year could be surplus for power generation. The state- wise details of biomass generation, biomass surplus and estimated power potential from agricultural resi- dues is given at Annexure-I.
(c)&(d): MNRE is promoting efficient utilization of biomass like agricultural and agro-industrial residues for power generation in the country. 165 biomass power projects based on biomass combustion technology with a total capacity of about 1,400 megawatt have been set up in the country as on 31st January 2015. Fiscal incentives such as accelerated depreciation, conce- ssional customs duty, excise duty exemption, income tax holiday for 10 years and preferential tariff are provided for biomass power projects. In addition, the Central Financial Assistance of Rs.25.0 lakh per mega- watt in special category states and Rs.20.0 lakh per megawatt for other states with a cap of Rs.1.50 crores per project is being provided by MNRE for setting up of the biomass power projects.
