Question : Setting up Girls Hostels and Degree Colleges

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up more girls hostels and model degree colleges in various districts of the country especially in minority dominated districts during the last three years to further increase their rate of literacy; and

(b) if so, the details thereof, State and location-wise including Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and
Madhya Pradesh including literacy progress report, year-wise?

(a) & (b) The Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, has
been implemented in 710 Minority Concentration Blocks, 66 Minority Concentration Town and 13
Clusters of Contagious Villages during the 12th Plan period ending 2016-17. This programme is
aimed at improving the socio-economic infrastructure and basic amenities for uplifting the quality
of life of the minority. This programme has provided financial support inter-alia for creation of
assets like School building, Additional Class Rooms, Polytechnics, ITIs, Hostels in minority
concentration area. The Ministry during last three years has sanctioned 340 units of hostels
including girl’s hostels and 10 nos. of degree colleges in the identified Minority Concentration
Blocks/Towns of the country including the States of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. The details of
hostels/degree colleges sanctioned by Ministry under MsDP are annexed. Further details are also
