(a) whether the Government has formulated/amended tourism policy for the development and promotion of tourism in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is considering to get International Co-operation in this field; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the progress made in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM (SHRI SULTAN AHMED)

(a) and (b): The latest Tourism Policy of the Government was formulated in 2002 after detailed interactions with the industry associations, concerned Ministries & Departments of Central Government, State Governments and other stakeholders. The main objectives of the policy are to position tourism as a major engine of economic growth and to harness its direct and multiplier effects for employment and poverty eradication in an environmentally sustainable manner.

(c) and (d): Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)/ Agreement on Tourism Cooperation with 46 countries.
