Question : PENDING CASES WITH CRIME BRANCH



(a) the number of cases pending with the crime branch of Delhi Police;

(b) the period of their pendency;

(c) the reasons therefor;

(d) the number of vehicles lying in various police stations awaiting release to their owners;

(e) the reasons for the delay in releasing those vehicles; and

(f) the measures proposed to be taken to ensure that the vehicles are released on superdari to their owners ensuring no deterioration in their condition?

(a) & (b): There were as on 21st July, 2000, 507 cases pending with the Crime Branch of Delhi Police for the periods indicated below :-

(c ): The completion of inquiry into a case depends on several variable factors which are not always wthin the control of the investigating officers.

(d): There were as on 23rd July, 2000, 4198 such vehicles in the custody of Police Stations.

(e): The reasons for delay include unwillingness of the owners to get their vehicles released after settlement of their claims for insurance; damaged conditions of vehicles; and reluctance of owners to get their vehicles released on Superdari just to escape from the responsibilities of producing the vehicles in the Court during trial.

(f): Written intimation is given to the owners of the vehicles as well as the insurance companies requesting them to take possession of the vehicles.
