Question : Defence Corridor Projects

(a) whether the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI) and Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India) have signed any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with domestic and foreign private players as part of the defence corridor project in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has signed any MoU with private players from India and abroad in respect of defence corridor project in Uttar Pradesh and if so, the details thereof and the employment opportunities created, total amount of funds allocated, disbursed and utilized for setting up of defence corridor in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu particularly in Coimbatore;
(c) the total number of companies who have invested in such defence corridor along with the schemes or subsidies announced and other strategic support provided to companies by the Government in this regard;
(d) the steps taken by the Government to expedite the setting up of defence industrial corridor in the country including Coimbatore; and
(e) the effective measures taken by the Government to provide job opportunities to eligible people after the corporatisation of Ordnance Factory Board?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a): No, Sir.

(b) to (d): As per the information received from Government of Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the nodal agency for Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) has signed 69 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with industry with potential investment of Rs. 10545 Cr. Actual Investment of Rs. 1767 Cr. has been made by the industries in UPDIC.

Further, as per information received from Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Authority (TIDCO), the nodal agency for Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC) has arranged investment worth potential of Rs. 11359 Cr. through MoUs etc. with 42 industries. Actual Investment worth Rs. 3176 Cr. has been made by the industries in TNDIC.

The respective State Governments have their own Aerospace and Defence Policy to offer support to investors through various incentives. Regular interaction with all stakeholders such as DPSUs and private investors is being carried out by respective State and Union Government to understand the challenges and address issues of investors. No separate funds have been allocated by Central Government for setting up of the Defence Industrial Corridors.

(e): The new Defence companies have the autonomy to engage manpower, as per their functional requirement.
