Question : Assistance for Construction of Rail Lines

(a) whether the Government has received a proposal from the State Government of Maharashtra in respect of providing 50 per cent share in the expenditure for laying rail line in naxal affected areas of the country particularly Wadsa-Gadchiroli and Nagpur-Nagbir;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the action taken by the Government so far in this regard?

(a) to (c) : A proposal was earlier received from State Govt. of Maharashtra proposing that Ministry of Home Affairs may share 50% of the cost of the Wadasa-Gadchiroli new railway line project in Naxal affected areas of Maharashtra, while the balance 25% each be provided by Govt. of Maharashtra and Ministry of Railways. No proposal has been received regarding Nagpur-Nagbir project. However, the MHA does not have provision for cost sharing on financing of railway projects.
