Question : Development of Fisheries

(a) whether the Government is considering to increase the central share for infrastructure development in the fisheries sector;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is considering to make it 75 percent as it used to be earlier; and

(d) if so, whether the Government has received any proposal in this regard from the UT of Lakshadweep and other States and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture are implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post Harvest Operations” as a Central Sector Scheme during the Financial Year 2015-16 with central financial assistance restricted to 40% of the capital cost for infrastructure projects in general areas and 55% in hilly and Scheduled areas. No proposal in this regard has been received from the UT of Lakshadweep. Some states namely Kerala and Karnataka have requested for reconsideration of the level of assistance to 75%, which has not been considered.
