Question : CONVERSION OF BROAD GAUGE FROM METER GAUGE



(a) the details of railway track, in kilometers, converted from meter gauge to broad gauge during the each of the last three years, State-wise, specially in Maharashtra ;

(b) the target fixed for gauge conversion under the Tenth Plan; and

(c) the quantum of funds allocated by the Government for this purpose?

(a): The details are given in the attached statement.

(b) & (c): A target of 2365 Kms of Gauge Conversion has been fixed for Xth Five Year Plan. Funds for the railway projects are allocated on year to year basis. A target of 1,000 km of gauge conversion has been fixed for completion during the year 2004-05 for which Rs.790.28 crore has been allocated.
