Question : Solar Energy Projects at Airports

(a) whether the Government has decided to install solar power project at some of its airports in the country;

(b) if so, the details and the current status thereof, airport/project-wise;

(c) the amount of solar energy likely to be generated by each of the above projects and its percentage contribution in the total requirement of energy at each airport, airport-wise;

(d) the funds allocated, released and spent for the purpose, project-wise;

(e) the time by which above solar projects are likely to be completed; and

(f) the steps taken by the Government for development/modernisation of airports?

(a) to (e): Yes, Madam. The details of solar power projects completed and undertaken by Airports Authority of India (AAI) at various airports in the country along with its energy generation capacity, Units of power generated per month, percentage of solar power consumption, funds allocated/spent etc. are at Annexure I & II respectively.;

(f): Development/modernisation of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken by AAI depending upon commercial viability, traffic demand, operational requirements, demand from airlines, availability of land, technical feasibility, etc.
