Question : FUNDS FOR HORTICULTURE



(a) whether the Union Government propose to allocate more funds for horticulture for its encouragement;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of the production of horticulture items during the last three years, year-wise;

(d) the target fixed for the production of horticulture items during current year;

(e) whether the Union Government have extended any financial assistance to Karnataka for giving a fillip to horticulture production in the State; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. The outlay for horticulture development programmes has been stepped up substantially during the Tenth Plan. The outlay for the horticulture sector was Rs.1453.06 crores during the Ninth Plan including the schemes which were subsumed under the Macro Management scheme. The proposed outlay for the horticulture sector during Tenth Plan is to the tune of Rs.3245.00 crores including 30 percent of funds on horticulture under the Macro Management Scheme.

(c): The available details of production of horticultural items during the last three years is as follows:-

(d): Annual target for production of horticultural items are not fixed.

(e)&(f): Financial assistance is being extended to the State Governments including Karnataka under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme on Macro Management in Agriculture – Supplementation/Complementation of State Efforts through Work Plans. Under the Scheme the State Governments have been given freedom to priorities their activities as per the felt needs and requirement. An amount of Rs.58.50 crores was released to the Government of Karnataka during 2001-02 and the outlay for 2002-03 is Rs.58.00 crores out of which an amount of Rs.20.00 crores has been earmarked for the horticulture sector. Besides, the programmes of National Horticulture Board and Coconut Development Board have also been implemented in Karnataka with substantial investments.
