Question : NIPER in Andhra Pradesh



Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Andhra Pradesh;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the extent to which the NIPER helps in reducing the demand for experts in pharmacy and also make AP a pharmaceutical hub?

(a) & (b): No, Madam. There is no such proposal to set up National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Andhra Pradesh.

(c): At present seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) are functioning at Mohali, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Raebareli, Hajipur and Kolkata under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India. The basic objectives of setting up these institutes are to nurture and promote quality and excellence in pharmaceutical education and research. Since inception of these Institutes, 3391 students have been awarded postgraduates and 264 students doctorate degrees. These highly skilled trained manpower are contributing their knowledge to the national economy.
