(a) to (c) The objective of Smart Cities Mission (SCM) is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure such as adequate water supply, assured electricity supply, sanitation including solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, etc. to
give a clean and sustainable environment and a decent quality of life to its citizens through application of `Smart’ solutions. The implementation of the SCM at the City level is done by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for the purpose. The SPV plan, appraise, approve, release funds, implement, manage, operate, monitor and evaluate the Smart City development projects. A total of 5,151 different projects, at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,05,018 crores, have been included by the 100 selected Cities in their Smart City proposals. Some Smart Cities i.e. Ujjain, Jalandhar, Amritsar & Bhopal have reported projects related to installation of Smart Name Plates which may be linked to collection of electricity bills, water bills, property tax, license fees etc in these Smart Cities.
