Question : New National Textile Policy


(a) whether the Government proposes to take any steps for the development of the textile industry and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the details of the textile units that are proposed to be upgraded in the country particularly in Kerala;

(c) whether the textile industry is in a critical condition at present and required policy related changes and adequate financial support to speed up its development, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether it is proposed to introduce a New National Textile Policy (NNTP) to improve and enhance the development of textile industry and if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government has set target to generate 350 lakh employment opportunities and export of textile worth $ 300 billion under the NNTP and if so, the details thereof and the time limit fixed therefor; and

(f) the details in regard to attracting investment in the textile industry under the NNTP?

(a): Yes Sir. Government implements several central sector schemes such as Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS), Scheme for integrated processing Development, as well as Schemes for the Development of Technical Textiles, Powerloom ,Silk, Wool, Jute Handloom and Handicrafts .

(b): The up-gradation of textile units all over the country including Kerala is an ongoing activity. 13 proposals were received from the State of Kerala for assistance under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), from 2013-14 to 2015-16.

(c): No Sir. The textile industry is not facing any crisis at present.
(d) to (f): The New National Textile Policy is under finalisation.
