(a) The allocation of funds for maintenance of National Highways to the various States depends not only on length of National Highways but also on lane width, type of terrain, traffic density, type of the soil, extent of damages, intensity of rainfall etc. The allocation per kilometer varies from State to State due to reasons mentioned above. The State-wise details of funds allocated per kilometer during 2004-05 are annexed.
