Question : SCIENCE CITY



(a) whether the Union Government propose to set up of a science city in the field of information technology;

(b) if so, the details thereof and location identified therefor;

(c) whether the Government of Gujarat has sought any financial assistance for the purpose;

(d) if so, the amount demanded and sanctioned for the purpose; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a),(b),(c),(d) and (e): The Government of Gujarat has proposed to establish a Science City in Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar. This Science City will cover vast areas of science including Information Technology to be depicted through various pavilions. For this purpose, a Society known as Gujarat Council of Science City has been set up and registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860. The proposed Science City will be completed in three phases. The estimated cost for the first phase is Rs.91 crores. The estimates for the second and third phases are being worked out by Government of Gujarat who are also in process of allotting 250 acres of land in Ahmedabad.

The Government of Gujarat has requested Government of India to provide financial support of Rs.51 crores as well as other technical support.

The request of Government of Gujarat for financial and technical support is under consideration of the Government.
