Question : MEDICAL COLLEGE UNDER ESIC



(a)whether the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) proposes to set up new medical colleges in various parts of the country including Jharkhand and Kerala;

(b)if so, the details of locations identified, State/UT-wise;

(c)the funds allocated by ESIC for the said purpose; and

(d)the time by which such medical colleges are likely to become functional?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.16 TO BE ANSWERED ON 07.07.2014 BY ADV. JOICE GEORGE AND SHRI N.K. PREMACHANDRAN REGARDING MEDICAL COLLEGE UNDER ESIC.

(a): Yes, Madam. Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is setting-up a few Medical Colleges in various places of the country, including one at Paripally in Kerala. Medical College in Jharkhand is not in the list of approved Medical College Projects.

(b): Location-wise and State/U.T.–wise details of Medical College Projects are given in Annex.

(c): ESIC has allocated Rs.12,600 crore for Medical Education projects.

(d): Since establishment of medical college is subject to fulfillment of regulatory requirements of physical infrastructure, equipment, placement of faculty and issue of Letter of Permission by the Medical Council of India, no definite time frame for completion/functionality of various Medical Colleges can be given.
