Question : English Language

(a) whether the recommendation No. 15 of clause 4 of Committee of Parliament on Official Language envisages doing away with the compulsion of English language in recruitment examination;

(b) if so, whether the Government has decided to do away with the compulsory English language test for recruitment to various posts conducted by the Union Public Service Commission;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government is in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission on the said issue; and

(e) if so, the details of the meetings held and the officials who attended the said meetings?

(a): Yes, Madam.
(b) & (c): The papers on Indian Languages and English (Paper A & B) are of Matriculation or equivalent standard and of qualifying nature. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.

(d) & (e): The Commission conducts Examination in accordance with the Rules of Examination approved and notified by the Government. These rules of Examination contains the scheme of Examinations, the subject contained in the scheme etc.
