Question : Gram Samridhi Yojana

(a) whether the Government had approved and is planning to launch the Gram Samridhi Yojana, which will be implemented with the help of World Bank and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is planning to generate jobs in rural areas by strengthening small farmers and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken initiatives for creation of a non-banking financial institution for the food processing sector and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether the Government is planning to roll out model food processing policy in the country and if so, the details thereof along with the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): Yes Sir. The Gram Samridhi Yojana aims to enhance the competitiveness of micro enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry and promote formalisation of the sector.

The Gram Samridhi Yojana is planned to increase better job opportunities and availability of off-farms jobs.

(c): In pursuance to the Budget announcement for the financial year 2018-19, a new scheme to promote establishment of “Specialized Agro Processing Financial Institutions” as a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) is under consideration.

(d): Draft National Food Processing Policy is under formulation.
