(a) whether the Indian Railways have been awarded contract for laying railway lines and supplying rail wagons in the foreign countries;

(b) if so, the names of the countries who have awarded the contracts and the cost thereof;

(c) the names of the countries where Indian railway is collaborating in establishing and operating the railway system before 2007;

(d) whether the Indian Railways is undertaking the job of laying railway lines and expansion of railway networks in Afghanistan also; and

(e) if so, the time by which the proposed work of Afghanistan is likely to be completed?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.615 BY SHRI MOHAN SINGH TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 16.08.2007 REGARDING COLLABORATION OF INDIAN RAILWAYS WITH FOREIGN COUNTRIES

(a): No, Sir. Indian Railways have not been awarded any contract for laying of railway lines and supplying rail wagons in the foreign countries. However, IRCON International Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of Ministry of Railways is involved in undertaking the contracts for laying of Railway lines in the foreign countries.

(b): IRCON International Limited has been awarded contract for laying railways lines but not for supplying rail wagons in the following countries

(c): Indian Railways is not collaborating in establishing and operating the railway system in foreign countries. However, RITES Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of Ministry of Railways has collaborated in Colombia and Mozambique in establishing and operating the railway system before 2007.

(d): No, Sir. Neither Ministry of Railways nor any of its Public Sector Undertakings are undertaking the job of laying railway lines and expansion of railway networks in Afghanistan.

(e): Does not arise in view of (d) above.
