Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TEXTILES (SHRI E.V.K.S. ELANGOVAN)

(a) & (b) : The segment-wise progress of the Scheme as on 31.05.2006 is furnished at Annexure-I. The Scheme is a great success.

(c) & (d) : Based on the loan sanctioned and the assistance admissible as per norms of technology upgradation for the Scheme, the Ministry of Finance is providing funds.

(e) & (f) : Primarily being an interest reimbursement scheme, no year-wise targets for this scheme were fixed. However, the Government estimated that this scheme would be able to induce an investment of around Rs. 25,000 crore for modernisation of the Indian textile sector. This will enable the Indian textile industry to compete in the international market with confidence.
