(a) whether there is a proposal to make the Diesel Loco Modernization Works (DMW) in Punjab, a manufacturing hub for manufacturing of diesel and electric engines for the Railways under "Make in India"; and
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor ?

(a) & (b) Indian Railways already have manufacturing hubs for diesel engines (locomotives) and electric engines (locomotives) at Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Chittaranjan, West Bengal. Diesel Loco Modernization Works (DMW), Patiala in Punjab rebuilds diesel locomotives and also manufactures new diesel engines (locomotives) as per the requirement of Indian Railways.
