(a) the details of projects under construction in Northern and North Central Railways to cut the distance and speed up the journey;
(b) the work and institution-wise funds sanctioned to complete the railway projects within the specified time limit;
(c) the action taken against the companies which do not complete the work on time; and
(d) the details of the steps taken to check the quality of these developmental works?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2397 BY SHRIMATI KESHARI DEVI PATEL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 16.03.2022 REGARDING RAILWAY PROJECTS.

(a) & (b) : For increasing the mobility in Northern Railway and North Central Railway, Railways have taken up various New line, Gauge Conversion and Doubling project as per below details:-
Northern Railway
As on 01.04.2021, 53 Projects of total length 4184 km costing ?1,00,999 crore falling fully/partly in Northern Railway are under different stages of planning/approval/execution. These include:
• 19 New Line Projects of total length 1555 km at a cost of ?73,943 crore, out of which 314 Km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of ?31,335 crore has been incurred upto March 2021.

• 34 Doubling Projects of total length 2629 km at a cost of ?27,056 crore, out of which 619 Km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of ?7,293 crore has been incurred upto March 2021
North Central Railway
As on 01.04.2021, 34 Projects of total length 3271 km costing ?54,136 crore falling fully/partly in North Central Railway are under different stages of planning/approval/execution. These include:
• 2 New Line Projects of total length 619 km at a cost of ?9,509 crore, out of which 229 Km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of ?2,427 crore has been incurred upto March 2021.
• 3 Gauge Conversion Projects of total length 440 km at a cost of ?6,680 crore and out of which an expenditure of ?292 crore has been incurred upto March 2021.

• 29 Doubling Projects of total length 2212 km at a cost of ?37,947 crore, out of which 156 Km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of ?5,058 crore has been incurred upto March 2021.

(c) The action are taken against the companies who do not complete the work on time as per General Condition of Contracts (GCC) and Contract conditions.

(d) The quality control checks are done as per standard protocol.
