Question : Income Support Scheme

(a) whether it is a fact that Prime Minister’s income support scheme will benefit over 8 lakh large farmers of the country, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the above said scheme is also likely to benefit those farmers who are not having land as well as daily wage farmers; and

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government to save the poor landless farmers of the country?

(a): The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme was initially started to provide income support to all Small and Marginal landholder farmers’ families across the country, whose number was estimated at 12.5 crore. The ambit of the PM-Kisan Scheme has been expanded to cover all farmers in the country irrespective of the size of their land holdings, subject to the other existing exclusion criteria. It is expected that an additional 2 crore farmers will be covered.

(b) & (c): No. Sir. The benefit under PM-Kisan Scheme is aimed at land owning farmers. However, various schemes run by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare aim at benefitting the cultivators irrespective of the ownership status.
