Question : CESS ON AIR PASSENGERS



(a) whether domestic airlines charge fuel and congestion cess from passengers under the head of taxes and surcharge;

(b) if so, the details in this regard;

(c) whether the Government has asked the airlines to have a fair system on their practice of charging such cess.

(d) if so, the reaction of various airlines in this regard;and

(e) the details of action taken by the Government to check such activities of domestic airlines?

(a) to (e):- Some airlines were showing congestion charges and passenger service fee under the head of taxes and surcharge. The Government noticed this anomaly and asked the airlines through DGCA to indicate the correct position. Now the airlines have started indicating various components of the ticket clearly and correctly on their website/tickets.
