(a) & (b): As per the available data of Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), India held
third position in the world in the production of cereals, second position in the production of
wheat, rice, vegetables & fruits and first position in pulses in 2007 and 2008.
The per capita net availability of foodgrains, fruits and vegetables in India for 2009
is given below:

The per-capita availability of foodgrains, fruits and vegetables in different countries
varies depending on a number of factors including, interalia, economic status of the country,
national income, level of economic development, agro-climatic conditions, tastes etc.
(c): In order to increase production and productivity, the Government is implementing a number
of schemes/programmes, which include, inter alia, National Food Security Mission (NFSM), Rashtriya
Krishi Vikas Yojana(RKVY), Integrated Cereals Development Programme, Integrated Scheme of Oilseeds,
Pulses, Oil Palm and Maize (ISOPOM), National Horticulture Mission etc.
