(a) As per Census 2011, there are 2.68 crore Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the country. State-wise details are at Annexure-I.
(b) The details of the Rehabilitation Schemes launched by the Government for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) are at Annexure-II
(c) The Government implements various Central Sector Schemes for the rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) for which funds are not allocated to the States.
(d) The Government has enacted the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 which came into force on 19.04.2017. The Act provides various rights & entitlements for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) & mandates the appropriate Government to take measures to promote education, skill development, social security, health, rehabilitation and recreation for PwDs so that they can enjoy their rights equally with others. The Act provides special provision for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (disability of 40% or more) which, inter-alia, includes reservation in seats in Government / Government aided higher educational institution, reservation in Government jobs, reservation in allotment of agricultural land/housing/developmental program, poverty alleviation schemes, allotment of land on concessional rates for setting up of business etc. In addition, the Government implements various Schemes for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), details of which are at Annexure-II
