Question : POST OFFICES



(a) the number of Post Offices functioning in the country as on date, State-wise;

(b) whether a number of Post Offices are functioning from rented buildings in the country including major cities like Mumbai and Thane of Maharashtra;

(c) if so, the details of such Post Offices, State-wise including Maharashtra; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government for construction of buildings for Post Offices which are running from rented buildings particularly those in Thane, and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra?

(a) State-wise number of Post Offices functional in the country (as on 31.03.2014) is at Annexure-I.

(b) Yes, Madam.

(c) State-wise number of Post Offices functioning from rented buildings including Maharashtra (as on 01.08.2014) is at Annexure-II.

(d) Under the Plan Scheme – “Estates Management’ during 12th Five Year Plan, steps have been taken for construction of the following four post office buildings in Maharashtra State:

(i) Rukmininagar, Amravati

(ii) Sawantwadi, Sindhudurg

(iii) S.P.College, Vijaynagar, Pune

(iv) Bandra West, Mumbai

In addition, two post offices have been constructed in the recent past in Mumbai city at Kandivali West and Kannamwar Nagar. However, there is no proposal to construct post office building in Thane and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra during current Plan period.
