(a) & (b) : Generation is a delicenced activity. The present status of under construction Power Projects in the State of Tamil Nadu is at Annexure. It will be seen that the ongoing power projects are in the State/Private Sector and it is for the State Government/Private promoters to take steps as appropriate for their completion/closure.
(c) : Electricity is a concurrent subject and supply /distribution of electricity & management of associated functions is carried out by concerned State Government/ Distribution utility. All the States and Union Territories (UTs) have signed MoUs with the Central Government to ensure 24x7 power supply to all households, industrial & commercial consumers and adequate supply of power to agricultural consumers w.e.f. 1st April 2019 onwards. Government of India has supported the States through its various Schemes including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) to help them to achieve the objective of providing uninterrupted power supply to all the households.
The State of Tamil Nadu had already achieved 100% household electrification in the rural and urban areas; accordingly, no project has been sanctioned for the State under Saubhagya scheme. The State of Tamil Nadu has reported 24 Hrs. power supply in a day in the rural areas during the month of June, 2021.
