(a) whether the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam
Limited (MTNL) have taken a number of buildings on rent despite having its buildings;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor and the amount spent on rented building during each
of the last three years and the current year; and
(c) the steps taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone
Nigam Limited (MTNL) have taken buildings on rent due to scarcity of proper space in
Departmental buildings or non-availability of Departmental buildings for opening new
exchanges/Remote Switching Units (RSUs) to meet technical parameters.
The amount spent on rent towards these buildings during the last three years and
the current year is as follows:
