Question : International Stadium at Agra

(a) whether an international stadium was proposed for Agra to promote the sports activities and to promote talent of not only Agra but the adjoining areas like Mathura, Fatehpur Sikri, Etah, etc.;

(b) if so, the details and the current status thereof;

(c) if not, the reasons for shelving the same; and

(d) the current plan of the Ministry in this regard, especially keeping in view that Agra and Fatehpur Sikri have very limited industrial growth and alternative opportunities in terms of sports activities, infrastructure, holding of international level matches, are deemed imperative for the economic and social development of the region?

(a) No Sir.
(b) Does not arise.
(c) & (d) “Sports” being a State subject, the responsibility of development of Sports, including promotion of sports and construction of international stadium in the country, rests with the State/Union Territory (UT) Governments. This Ministry supplements the efforts of State /UT Governments in this regard, by providing financial assistance through National Sports Federations, training in Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centres and support under Khelo India Scheme. These Schemes cater to the entire country including Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.
