Question : EXPORT OF SILK PRODUCTS .



(a) whether the Government of Karnataka has submitted any proposal to the Union Government to extend necessary assistance for increasing the export of silk products;

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Union Government in this regard during the last three years; and

(c) the total amounts of silk items exported from Karnataka during the said period, year-wise?

(a) Yes Sir, the Govt. of Karnataka submitted a proposal on 3.5.2001 for financial assistance of Rs. 10.00 crores for establishment of Apparel Park for exports which includes silk garments.

(b) A scheme Titled `Apparel Park for Exports` has been announced in the union Budget 2001-02 with the objectives:


(i) To give a focussed thrust to setting up of modern apparel manufacturing units of international standards in clusters of excellence which will work as one-stop-shop for reputed international buyers

(ii) To give fillip to domestic production to met competition from imports and to promote exports in this sector.

(c) The total amount of silk goods exported from country as a whole and that from Bangalore, Karnataka Centre during the last three year is indicated as under:
