Question : Revamping of BCAS

(a): whether the Government has any proposal to revamp Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and also to increase the manpower in the organisation;

(b): if so, the details thereof, grade-wise increase of manpower;

(c): the names of places in the country where regional offices of BCAS are located;

(d): whether the Government has any proposal to set up more regional offices of BCAS in various parts of the country;

(e): if so, the locations identified for setting up of the same and the time by which the above offices are likely to be set up; and

(f): the extent to which revamping of BCAS is likely to provide foolproof safety to air passengers and aircraft?

(a) & (b): The cadre restructuring of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Aviation (BCAS) has already been approved.

(c): As of now, BCAS have Regional Offices at eight locations, namely, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Guwahati.

(d) & (e): The re-structuring of BCAS also covers opening of twelve more Regional Offices. BCAS have also identified the locations for new Regional Offices.

(f): The strengthening of BCAS is expected to ensure presence of the regulatory authority at all airports, which will enable better functioning at field level leading to better security oversight and quality control of civil aviation security in the country.
